Description

Swiss chard makes for the best-sautéed vegetable side dish. With fresh garlic and a touch of olive oil, it’s quick, healthy, and bursting with flavor. Perfect as a side for any meal or as a topping for pasta, grains, or toast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bunch of Swiss chard (approximately 6 to 8 stems)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • ¼ cup water
  • Kosher salt, to taste

Instructions

  • Prep the Swiss chard: Wash thoroughly, remove the stems, and slice them into small pieces. Roll the leaves into a cigar shape and slice into one-inch strips.
  • Cook garlic and stems: Heat olive oil in a sauté pan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds. Stir in the chopped chard stems and water, cooking for 1–2 minutes until softened.
  • Add leaves: Add the chard leaves, stirring occasionally, and cook for 4–5 minutes until wilted.
  • Season and serve: Sprinkle with kosher salt to taste. Serve immediately as a side dish or use in other recipes.

Notes

  • For an extra burst of flavor, finish with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice or a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two days and reheated in a pan over medium heat.
  • Customize with additions like red pepper flakes, sesame oil, or crumbled feta for different flavor profiles.
