Description
Cajun Dirty Rice with Ground Beef is a flavorful, one-skillet recipe packed with bold spices, tender ground beef, and the aromatic “holy trinity” of Cajun cooking—onions, bell peppers, and celery. Perfect as a hearty main course or a savory side dish, this classic Southern dish is easy to make and sure to please everyone at the table.
Ingredients
• 1 cup of long-grain white rice
• 1 pound of ground beef
• 1 medium onion, diced
• 1 bell pepper, diced (green, red, or a mix)
• 2 celery stalks, diced
• 3 cloves of garlic, minced
• 2 teaspoons of Cajun seasoning (or more to taste)
• 1 cup of beef broth
• 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil (optional)
• Optional garnish: chopped parsley or green onions
Instructions
- Cook the rice according to package instructions, using beef broth instead of water for added flavor. Fluff with a fork and set aside.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add vegetable oil if needed, and brown the ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks. Cook until fully browned, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in diced onion, bell pepper, and celery. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until the vegetables are soft and fragrant.
- Add minced garlic and Cajun seasoning. Stir and cook for an additional minute to bloom the spices.
- Mix in the cooked rice and pour in the beef broth. Stir well, reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as desired. Serve hot, garnished with parsley or green onions.
Notes
- For more heat, add diced jalapeños, red pepper flakes, or hot sauce.
- Substitute mushrooms or beans for a vegetarian version.
- Leftovers store well in the fridge for 3-4 days or in the freezer for up to 2 months.
